Take a stroll on Main Street

February 6, 2025

Where do people congregate in a tightly-knit community?

Whether you’re a newcomer, or a long-time resident, heading down to Main Street is likely the perfect place to begin your adventure. From there, you can grab a coffee in the bistro, and find everything you need to get your day started.

From morning to night, Main Street at Lake Bonavista Village is buzzing with activity. Residents coming and going to exercise classes, chatting in the bistro over a freshly-baked pastry, or catching up on the new and noteworthy community happenings. You’ll find folks catching some sun by the windows, working on a puzzle or playing chess, relaxing in a cozy seat next to the fireplace while getting a prescription filled from the tuck shop or awaiting a salon appointment. There’s a place for everyone—and most certainly a welcoming wave and friendly hello to those passing through. Clearly, Main Street is THE place to be if you’re looking to get in on the action.

Happy hour

“Residents here love to socialize,” says Harmeet Kandola, Life Enrichment Manager at Lake Bonavista Village. “They are active and independent, and feel confident to do a lot of things on their own—and because of that we find social activities and games really resonate with everyone in the community.” Harmeet continues, “We have a dedicated group of residents who attend the daily fitness classes, and from there a lot of them do their own thing, until the end of the day when they love to catch up with each other over happy hour.”

Jane MacDonald, Life Enrichment Assistant adds, “The Bistro is a hub in the community, there’s always someone to chat with.” Dana adds, “it’s very rare to see residents staying in their suites all day—they’re always on the move. In the summer, the walking paths and putting greens are busy with residents enjoying their daily dose of vitamin D.”

“Living at Lake Bonavista really feels like being part of a village,” says Mary Ann, who moved from her hometown in Saskatchewan three years ago. “When I first arrived in Calgary, I stayed with my daughter and her family, which was lovely, but I missed socializing with people my own age. Back in Saskatchewan, I was always involved in my community and made a lot of friends. Here, I’ve continued that—whether it’s joining in on happy hour, playing cards, attending Sunday service, or even starting the resident choir.” She adds: “My family visits often, and I’ve made some truly wonderful friends. The team here is so friendly and caring, and I’ve grown very fond of everyone. I have everything I need, and I’m so happy I chose to live here.”

“The staff and residents welcomed my mom,” says Cal, whose mother is a resident at Lake Bonavista Village. “The entire family felt welcome to visit anytime, and watching the great grandkids play in the pool is a highlight for her. The variety of shows, fitness classes, sing-alongs, and meeting with friends at the bistro meant her social life blossomed.”

Praveen Joshi, General Manager at Lake Bonavista Village started his career in hotel management, and joined the community in 2023. “I love working in the community,” says Praveen. “I love seeing residents and connecting with them throughout the day—it’s so wonderful to build relationships with residents and their families. I believe that is why we have such a warm and vibrant community. People stop and say hello to everyone, whether they know them or not. We are all apart of the community, and we welcome everyone to join us.”

So, take a stroll over to Main Street at Lake Bonavista Village: from lattes to laughs, there’s always something brewing.
